Ytterligare information (på engelska):
- Fertilized soil: To promote successful germination, start by soaking the fertilized coconut cakes in 5 to 6 times their volume of water: they will swell instantly. Unfold them and fill the jar with a spoon. Remember to keep a small portion to cover the seeds after sowing.
- Seeding: Before sowing, soak the seeds in water for 3 hours. Sow a seed in the pot. Save the other seed for a later sowing or to sow directly on your balcony when it is sunny. Gently cover the seeds with fertilized coconut soil and tamp lightly.
- Watering: Ideally, use rainwater or filtered water (without chlorine). Water directly on the soil without spraying on the plant. Keep the soil just wet, without clogging it with water, throughout the crop. Think of the soil as a damp sponge that needs to be drained. Do not let the coconut soil dry out.
- Germination: Tree seeds for direct seeding sprout like other seeds. Expose them to sunlight behind a glass window, without putting them on a radiator, and ideally with a plastic bottle cut out to serve as a greenhouse. Seeds can take a week to germinate. Keep seedlings under the plastic bottle for as long as possible to retain heat and moisture. The plant will then grow normally but slowly.
- Planting: When the seedlings emerge and reach 5 to 10 cm in height, select only one plant per pot and transplant the others into new pots or planters, always exposed to the sun. Be careful not to break the stems or roots when repotting. Water to promote regrowth and continue to expose directly to the sun.
- Size: The Pinus Pinea is a majestic conifer that can reach 5 meters in height with a characteristic parasol-shaped foliage, hence its name. Cut at a young age, it can remain dwarf and live for decades as a Bonsai. Be careful and thorough, follow the Bonsai method to avoid damaging the tree
